Based on the children's voices, we collaborated with the Kawasui Aqua & Animal School to create a "Kawasaki Elementary School Biotope where people and living creatures gather," and implemented environmental education through the restoration of the biotope.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Kawasaki Aquarium (Kawasaki Suisan) is collaborating with Kawasaki Municipal Kawasaki Elementary School to implement the "School Biotope Restoration and Environmental Learning Project," which aims to restore the school's biotope.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this project, we listened to the children's voices through interviews, hearing their desire to make the biotope easier to observe living creatures and to find a variety of creatures. Based on their opinions, we created an image of the restored biotope.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Going forward, Kawasui and "Kawasui Aqua & Animal School," a specialized school for animals and plants operated by Kawasui, will collaborate to develop the biotope, incorporating the opinions of the children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Background of this project<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Kawasaki Elementary School has a biotope where children can experience nature and living creatures in their immediate surroundings.
This time, we will further utilize this biotope as a place for environmental learning and work on its restoration so that children can deepen their interest in nature through observing living things.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kawasui believes it's important to have opportunities for children to learn about and become interested in living things, not only within the aquarium but also in places close to them. Finding living things in familiar places and wondering, "What is this?" and thinking about the environment in which they live through observation are the first steps to deepening their understanding of and interest in living things.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The biotope at the school is a valuable place where children can encounter living things in their daily lives and learn about the natural environment. At Kawasui, we hope to nurture children's love for living things through these encounters with nature close at hand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Therefore, Kawasui has now begun an initiative to utilize its accumulated knowledge of living creatures and experience in breeding and creating environments to revitalize the biotope at Kawasaki Elementary School, transforming it into an environment where children can observe living creatures and deepen their interest in nature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Starting with the voices of children, we aim to create a "Kawasaki Elementary School Biotope where people and living things gather."<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

In this project, staff from KAWASUI and students from KAWASUI Aqua & Animal School visited Kawasaki Elementary School to gather opinions and requests from the children regarding the biotope.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The children shared a variety of ideas, including "I want to make it easier to observe living things," "I want to clean up the waterways to create an environment where living things can live," and "I want to find all kinds of living things, such as insects and fish."<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Based on these voices, students from Kawasui and the Kawasui Aqua & Animal School checked the environment and safety aspects of the biotope, created an image of the restored biotope, and proposed it to the children. The characteristic of this project is that it does not just stop at listening to the children's ideas, but gives them concrete form from a professional perspective and connects them to actual environmental improvement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The project's theme is "Kawasaki Elementary School Biotope: A Place Where People and Living Things Gather." By creating an environment where living things can thrive and children can easily observe them, the project aims to revitalize the school, creating a place where students can encounter living things and learn about the natural environment as part of their school life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It will also be a practical learning environment for Kawasui Aqua & Animal School.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Kawasui Aqua & Animal School, operated by MOFF Co., Ltd., will also be participating in this project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kawasui Aqua & Animal School is a specialized school for animals and plants that uses Kawasui as a "living classroom" to provide practical learning opportunities in animal care, exhibition, and facility management.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this biotope restoration project, we will listen to requests from the children, consider the environment from a professional perspective based on those requests, propose restoration methods, and carry out the actual maintenance work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Experiencing the entire process of "listening to requests," "thinking," "proposing," and "implementing" provides students with practical learning opportunities to apply the knowledge they've learned in the classroom to creating real-world environments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Furthermore, the project aims to provide children with an opportunity to think proactively about living things and the natural environment through the process of seeing their ideas take shape as an actual biotope.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Transforming encounters with familiar creatures into future environmental education.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

In urban areas, children often have limited opportunities to interact with nature and animals on a daily basis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the other hand, a biotope located at a school is a familiar natural environment where students can observe living creatures as part of their daily school life, without having to go to a special location.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This project does not aim to simply restore the biotope, but rather to utilize it as a place where children can continuously observe living creatures and learn about the natural environment even after its completion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kawasui will continue to collaborate with local schools and organizations to create opportunities for learning and experiences through living creatures, thereby promoting activities aimed at "realizing a society where animals and humans can live together happily with smiles on their faces."<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Community initiatives utilizing the Kawasui Official Supporter System<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

At Kawasui, we receive support from companies and organizations as official supporters, and we are engaged in various initiatives such as wildlife conservation, educational activities, and collaboration with the local community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this project, we are using a portion of the support we have received to purchase equipment necessary for biotope restoration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Going forward, we will continue to utilize the support we receive from our supporters not only for activities within the facility, but also for initiatives that will contribute to the future of local children and wildlife, thereby deepening our ties with the community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Past efforts and future plans<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

This project began in June 2026. To date, staff from KAWASUI and students from the KAWASUI Aqua & Animal School have visited Kawasaki Elementary School to gather opinions and requests from the children regarding the biotope.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Based on that feedback, Kawasui and Kawasui Aqua & Animal School created an image of the biotope after its restoration, taking into account the environment and safety aspects, and presented it to the children. Moving forward, based on this image, the biotope will be maintained according to the following schedule.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • First session: Thursday, October 15, 2026. Preparations such as mowing grass and removing aquatic plants from waterways.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Second session: October 22, 2026 (Thursday) Equipment setup and layout<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Third session, October 29, 2026 (Thursday): Layout adjustment and completion.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    *Please note that the schedule and content may change due to weather conditions, school circumstances, etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    After the renovations are complete, the biotope will be used for observing living creatures and conducting environmental education, providing a place where children can continuously learn about living things and the natural environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
